Jamboree Travel Day 4

We survived the night. It's now 7:30am  and we are eating a banquet full breakfast. The kids are more excited about going to the Smithsonian than going take a picture at the White House. Who would have thought that. The kids had another hall party while we were waiting to board the bus.

It's 8:30 and we are headed to the capital for a picture.  At the capital there were hundreds of other scouts there taking pictures. We tried to take ours around some people from Japan. That was interesting. The kids didn't realize what the landscape consisted of until I told them to look at the lawn in front of them while taking their picture, then they were like awe I want to stay here. Lol.

Here is is now 9:30 and we are headed to the Smithsonian exhibits. First stop we made a detour to the White House. The kids were amazed with all the secret service people. They were everywhere including the roof. Lyla petted the secret service dog. The man said you can't pet the dog he's working right now. Oh my my. We looked around and took pictures.

It's 10:00 and we are being dropped off at the Smithsonian exhibits.  The adults visited the Native American Museum, Natural History museum and the American Heritage Museum.

At 3:00
Went to holocost museum. That place was like going into a prison.  We had to take everything out of our pockets, take off our belts and even had to drink out of our water bottle. This was a very serious exhibit. There was still one quarter of the exhibit left but most abandoned looking when we went through an area with all the shoes and hair.

At 5:00 we left to go eat at the Italian restaurant Buca do Beppo. This was a very interesting restaurant. The walls were completely adorned with artwork and photos. The ceilings were painted with art. We ate salad, bread, spaghetti and fettuccine. Then everyone was discussing what we could do in the hour time frame ahead since we finished our meal in 30 minutes. So we thought. Lol. They had all the kids get on the bus. I was inside waiting for the last ones to come out of the restroom. The waiters come lithe kitchen with 6 plates of brownies. One guy has both arms in front with 3 plates in hand saying "where did they go?  They are all gone." It was so funny. I said they were already on the bus. He was like "but, but I have desert!" I said looking at the brownies could you pack them to go. He said sure.

The boys were trying to squeeze in a trip to see the boyscout monument. We succeeded.  After that, I think we visited every monument imaginable. We visited the Franklin d Roosevelt Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, WW1 Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, WW2 Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, DC War Memorial, Washington Monument, Korean War Memorial, National Mall with our tour guide Larry.

Our daily tour ended but we were able to squeeze two more stops in. We went to the Iwo Jima Memorial this statue was humongous.   Later we went to the Pentagon 911 Memorial at the Pentagon. It was a mile and 1/2 hike.  One of the leaders was explaining the crash at the memorial.  The hardest thing for some of our poor children was that didn't understand that the Pentagon is in the shape of a Pentagon.  So we brought I up on Google maps to show them in real time where we were.  Then they were like ohhhhh....

It's now almost 11pm and we are headed back to the hotel to take our baths, wash clothes and get everyone to bed. All the kids beat us to the laundry. so I set my alarm for 3am to put it on and 4am to dry. Then up at 5:30am for breakfast.
