Jamboree Travel Day 5

Well were up and not to bright eyed. One of the people with me said their fit bit trackers said we waked 11 miles yesterday. OMG

We packed our last minute things along with our cleaned laundry. We went to breakfast by 6:00. Well let's back track a little. Tanek and a boy from the other group is their groups leaders and said they were tired of the adults doing everything. So we let the boys take over. This means they assume the adults position and take over. Well after breakfast everyone was packed and on the bus. Tanek was doing a head count and realized we were missing 4 boys that ALL shared a room.  Well Tanek did not text a group message to make sure everyone was up and accounted for. The 4 boys were still sleeping like babies in their bed. Well needless to say our day started out a few minutes late.

At 8:45 we made it to Arlington Cemetery. We waited for our tour guide and began our trek to the tomb of the unkown soldiers. We are watching the changing of the guards and the wreath laying. It was freakin hot. The guard was so sweaty that his shoes had sweat dripping all over the ground from his uniform.  Then come to find out a bunch of our kids left their water in the bus. So we had one kid to get overheated already. We called security and I gave him my ice water and a refill. Security and Vinson drove him down to the bus to cool off and hydrate. Ok so this is going to be interesting at Jambo.  I was put back on chaperone duty and went to the auditorium. That was a pretty spot (see pic).  We stopped at a couple of famous graves and ended our tour.

It is now 11am and we are headed to Mount Vernon, George Washington Estate.  It was only a short 30 minute or so ride. We ate lunch at the cafe and headed to the house. The lawn and property was quite large. The view from the Paromic River was amazing.  It must have been amazing to live in such a house with that view. The colors, wall paper and plaster work was amazing. They used science and samples taken from the wall to recreate them.  After the tour of the house we made our way to Washington's tomb. 4 of our scouts got to participate in a wreath ceremony. One of our scouts was excited because he got to say the prayer and they gave him an official copy that was printed like a commemorative piece. It excited him so much because he wants to become a priest when he's old enough. After the ceremony we all walked down a beautiful brick lined trail to the river. The river was almost like looking at the sea with the waves, sounds and salty smell in the air. You could take a boat ride across if you wanted to at a price of course. We took the shuttle bus back to the museum. We checked the museum section and it was already time go to our next destination.

It is now 4pm and we are at the US Air and Space Museum. We only had an hour to tour. We went straight to the good stuff. Everyone went to check out the space shuttle Discovery and all the other items, as one of the kids dubbed "out of this world objects". He said it's because these objects went into space and out of this world. Lol.  Before we left 2 of our kids were upset that we ate at Washington's place instead of Mc Donald's. Yea they wanted to eat at Mc Donald's. So at 5:00 as we are leaving the museum and what do they have? If you guessed Mc Donalds your right. these kids go and buy cheese burgers. How many? you might ask. Well one bought 3 and the other one bought 10!  Yea that was insaine. The one with 3 he ate them all, the one with 10 said he was eating 3 or 4 and saving the rest for a snack to eat at the hotel tonight.

It is now 5:30 and we headed to our restaurant for our evening meal.

At 6:00 were still on the road due to heavy traffic. We passed by our hotel on the way to see 8 fire trucks surrounding the front part of the building.  From what I had seen there was lots of water on the ground. So it's probably safe to say we are not going to sleep there tonight.  We will continue on to supper and our tour lady is going to work out the details. JUST  JOKING. The fire at hotel was real but it wasn't ours.  lol Vince told them that was ours and they believed them all the way to the restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:45pm. it was called Old Time Buffet. The kids and I ate to our hearts content. The boy with the 3 cheeseburgers ate a big meal. The boy with the 10 cheeseburgers did not eat and was wasn't looking to happy either lol

It is now 7:30 pm and we are on a 4 hour travel time to our hotel.  The traveling was good. But it sure was not quick. The bus driver expressed his concerns about the night travel. He said after a restroom break that the roads coming up are rural winding roads following alongside the mountains, that will make it difficult to maneuver at night.  He was right. You would see a hill and not the other side. When you got to the other side there wa a curve waiting for you. Or you would get to a curve and not see around it and when you did you were greeted by another curve going in the opposite direction. He was driving between 30 to 45mph. There was one curve with a guard rail around 1:00 am.  Sitting on the guard rail was a scary looking bald headed man, a flashlight in one hand and his dog on a leash in the other. Just staring at the road completely still like a zombie. It was just completely wierd. We made it to the room at 1:30 am. We all are taking a bath and preparing our luggage for tomorrow's entry.
